A Better Protein Shake

Over the years, protein shakes have become both more palatable and more complex.  The result is a more effective delivery system for vital nutrients that the body needs.  Better quality proteins are now available and experts know both how to filter out unnecessary ingredients and sprinkle in the good stuff.  Essential fatty acids, glutamine, and complex carbs are just a few of the many extra goodies thrown into some of the latest protein powders to make them pack an extra punch.  Not only do people know more about protein itself, but they also have become great at producing and marketing products that are meant to beat out the competition coming from literally dozens of other supplement companies.

What does this mean to you, the guy or gal drinking these wonderful concoctions?  Well, basically, you have a lot of options when it comes to making your protein shakes.  From the type of protein you use to the specific brand along with all of the other ingredients you throw into the blender you have a ton of choices.  Saving the protein dissection for a later post (along with a listing of my favorite brands) i’ll just shell out for the time being a little protein shake recipe that I consider to be one of the healthiest and tastiest around.  Listed below are the main ingredients you need.  You can try (at your own risk) to add other things to the mix, but what is listed below is what is recommended:

* Five to six ice cubes

* One handful of frozen mixed berries

* Up to one handful of mixed nuts

* Two to three tablespoons shredded coconut

* Two tablespoons cocoa powder

* One to two scoops protein powder

* One to two cups of skim milk

The instructions are simple: throw all of the ingredients into a blender, mix to the desired consistency and serve chilled.  The whole idea is to make something that provides a decent amount of protein, healthy fats, phytonutrients, and tastes great.  This shake fits the bill.  Enjoy.
