Burn More Calories in Less Time

Every felt like sitting on the couch instead of hitting the gym or going for a run?

Us too.

It happens to everybody.

Then again, there are the times when you do want to workout but just don’t have the time.  Maybe you think you need an hour to hit the trail or want to lift weights for forty five minutes – but your schedule gets in the way.  That can be just as frustrating.

So what’s the ideal amount of time to spend working out to achieve maximum results?  While the answer probably depends on your specific goals along with a few other factors, there’s one new study that might surprise you – it says that you can work out less and achieve more…  Crazy, right?

That’s what it sounds like at first, but it makes sense when you get the details.  Here’s the skinny:

A study done at Harvard that set out to settle the debate about how much daily exercise it takes to prevent weight gain found that it’s more about calories burned than it is about time spent working out.  The study discovered that if you work out harder during each bout of activity, then you won’t have to work out as frequently or as long to get the same results.  For instance, if you go for a jog at a ten minute mile pace, you only need to exercise for two hours per week to get the same results that you would if you were to walk at a 20 minute mile pace for 7 hours per week. The idea is simple: more intense workouts burn more calories than less intense ones.

Take home point: Working out harder is working out smarter.
